The pup grinned and gave Mr. Brown a thumbs-up. "You've got it, sir! I think we can get through the lode in a few days, maybe a week if it's big enough, which it sure looks to be. Thanks for your services, we appreciate it."
*****
A few of the foals outside Octavia's store stopped by and listened to the beautiful music coming out the door, and a fawn pulled on her mother's hoof to see what was going on too. The mare paid them no attention, though she smiled ever so slightly as she heard Asterian's violin joining the tune of her cello.
*****
The foals shivered, but thanked Frost. "They went looking for you. One of the stallions thought he had a better idea. 'We shouldn't sit around waiting for that thing to come back', he said. Everypony else yelled at him for being so rude about you, and there was a big argument. He got a bunch of ponies to go with him out in the snow, and after they didn't come back, a bunch of the other adults went after him to bring him back. I don't know where they are now..."
Warm Heart put a hoof over her mouth as she choked a bit. Ponies that went out into the Ice without protection were... very unlikely to return alive. She kept silent, however, and merely began to give out more warm ration disks and medical supplies from her pack, looking at Frost to see how she would respond. The Captain followed suit for his part.
Aldorn, standing at the front of the cave, could vaguely distinguish the last remnants of hoof-prints leading out into the snow, prints that were so faint that they hadn't noticed them coming in. Two tracks, actually, one following the other.

Aldorn inspects the hoof prints in the snow and looks at the direction of where the ponies may have gone to. He goes back into the cave and sees the group. "Hey, I need one of you to follow me. I found some faint hoof prints, they may be from that group you mentioned. But we may have to hurry before the snow buries the trail." Aldorn prepares himself for the search for the search of the other two while waiting for one them to follow him.

Frost looked down and slightly away when she heard what they chose to do. and they left the younglings behind as well to freeze without their protection and collective warmth. "I am gone that long and they think I am a foal. Well, we are here for you now children. My new friends and I will make sure you are never left like this again. Now eat up children, they are really 'warm'." Frost is more concerned for the safety of the children then finding the older ponies. She looked to Aldorn and said, "If you wish we can go looking, but we need to get the children back first, or one of us can stay here and keep them warm for now while the rest of us go searching. Then if needed I can, sense they probably packed the snow with each step, knock the lighter snow away from the tracks to make the trail more easy to follow."

Asterian continued to play, hitting each note in time with Octavia's. The two musicians almost seemed to meld into one being, each one knowing what the other was doing. After Octavia had finished her piece, Asterian stopped, but he did not lower his bow. He shot a glance at Octavia over his shoulder before smiling broadly, giving her a wink as his face disappeared from view once more. He placed his bow across the strings and began to play a softer yet much more saddened tune. I will have to thank mother for giving me violin lessons... He sounded as though he was playing two violins at once as he continued his piece with a precision surpassed only by the mare behind him. (( Yes! I am doing it! ))

Mr. Brown gave the old pup a smile and nod as he ran back into the mines to continue digging. After he'd left, the unicorn heaved a sigh. This find had broken the monotony... for a short while. At least he had some heavy-duty polishing to look forward to, but after that... Why do I keep worrying about the future? So ungrateful..., Mr. Brown thought to himself as he looked around the wonderful city he lived in. He occupied himself with recharging any sunlight crystals in the city that were running low, sending a sustained laser of light from his horn to the large crystals high overhead for several minutes at a time. ...Yet, as he finished recharging one, he was overcome with mischievous thoughts, and he added a color to the end of his spell. Everything in this district looked discreetly more green now...
Mr. Brown wasted no time leaving the area, thinking it best if he ran off before anyone came after him for the prank. Though still uncertain as to what came over him, he was more uncertain still as to why he was smiling about it.

Aldorn looks at the foals, then at Frost. "You take care of these little ones until they reach the haven. I only need one of the guards to follow me to search for those ponies. I realize you care the safety for these foals. Do so, then you may join me in the search. Better to say everypony as much as you can, especially when the trail is still visible." He takes off his heat pack and sets it on the ground. He separates it into two sections. He takes one of them and puts it on himself. He takes the other and gives it to Frost. "Take this, it will provide warmth for the little ones. Apply it to the middle of the group and it will share the heat to the group."

Frost nods and says, "Being a being of cold I will have to keep my distance from it less I lose my power. The cold is where I belong but I can adapt to the heat." Frost takes the device and places it on the middle most foal. Then she activates the share mode of the device for foals and steps away from it before the heat hits her.

The foals nodded and thanked Aldorn and Frost as the device began to give them some decent warmth to last at least perhaps a day, while the guards stood up gravely and followed the two adults. The blizzard was, unfortunately, beginning to pick up now, although Frost, at least, could tell where the lingering warmth of the missing ponies still faded in the snow. It was to be hoped that at least a few of the ones who had trusted her survived.

Mr. Brown found himself trotting down the Musician's Alley, not far from where he lived, and began to hear quite a melodious tune coming from the famous Octavia's shop. It sounded like the mare was playing a duet with someone else; for all his usual cynicism, perhaps it would be nice to stop by and listen for a while.
-----
Asterian played in perfect harmony with the famous mare, or rather, the mare played in perfect harmony with him, since he started the piece. It seemed oddly appropriate for the situation, though he had no idea why. Maybe it had something to do with what he was wearing. Where did that come from? In any case, the two of them were attracting quite a crowd, as always.

Asterian finished with a bow, though he never played for the admiration nor the crowds. He only ever played an instrument for the feeling of release of emotion. That feeling of vibrant expression without words was what he played for.
Once he was done, he set the violin back from whence it came, gently placing it on the stand as if it had never left. He then smiled and looked to Octavia, speaking in his usual tone, "You played magnificently... I wish I possessed half the musical talent you do, Octavia. I would almost give up writing to be able to do what you do."

Mr. Brown didn't often find himself listening to music, but he came to a stop outside the store, just off to the side of the small but growing crowd of listeners. He couldn't deny that he liked one thing about the music for certain; his mind got to rest and stop grinding on and on about internal conflict and work while he listened to it, so the turquoise unicorn closed his eyes and listened quietly.

"Well, it couldn't have been to long sense they left because the tracks are still warm. I can see the residual heat traces from them going that way." Frost points in a direction and begins to head off in the direction of the adults that trusted her. she regains almost instantly her frost armor because of the storms strength giving her a bit of a power boost. The strength of the blizzard is not hindering her very much but she paced herself to the others who were hindered by the blizzard. "I will take the lead, while this blizzard is strengthening. Once it lets up again I will let a good tracker find the tracks again. I can also knock the snow out of them so we can find them easier."

Octavia smiled softly at the noble. "But for this piece, you were the inspiration and the lead; I was but the accompaniment."
She carefully rosined her bow and adjusted the strings on her instrument. "Will you be staying long today, Asterian? Do you have time for another piece?"
*****
The lieutenant nodded. "Whatever seems best, ma'am. You seem to know more about the Ice than we ever learned in training."

As frost walked she made sure to apply her full weight on a straight line as to make a trail for them to follow if they were to get separated. her cold nature seaming to make the snow and ice part as if it bent to her very will. she guides them along the path as far as the heat trail leads, hoping to find the adults she promised she would help them find a home. from the heat trail she learned that it must have been maybe a 12 hour at most hike to get within at least sight range of them or to where they could have set up home for this storm. As she does this she says without taking her eyes off the trail, "It is the time I have spent in this cold and the fact that I am of the cold now that has allowed me this knowledge. many think I am a monster because of how I can survive off of this cold. I myself think it is a blessing from the ancient sisters as a way of bringing the world back from the brink of its end. all I wish right now is to help others with my power and for that alone I travel and fight, but I only fight when it is needed. as my mother has always taught me, with great power comes great responsibility. I never learned what she meant by that till her and father died and I faced the storm to save my home from meeting the same fate as they did. But in doing so I was told to leave my home and never return. from here it is at most a three day run to reach my home and the ruins of ponyville near it." Frost continued to make them a trail to follow as she moved at a pace that should keep them in sight of her.

Asterian smiled at the grey mare, readying his instrument once more. "Saying you were just the accompaniment is like saying paint is the accompaniment of painters. You gave the piece what it needed to function. For you, my friend, I have all the time in the world." Asterian took up his own rosin chunk and slid it over the bow, discreetly eyeing Octavia. He may have been a gentlecolt, but for a mare like Octavia, it was hard not to shoot her a glance ever once in a while. He cleared his throat and prepared, waiting patiently for Octavia's cue.

"Wise words from what I hear, and a mission from the Rulers of old. From that of the Sun and Moon I wager. My conditions for being out here is much different. I was sent by my goddess, Gaia, the Goddess of the Earth, to investigate the occurrence of this 'Ice Age', to investigate the disappearance of the immortals and eternals, and to find a way to restore the land to what it once was. My village was on the edge of the border, a place of little to no interest. An active volcano was close by, a forge of which I used for crafting armor and weapons using rare metals deep inside the walls of the volcano. When the Ice came, the village froze instantly along with many who could not escape its icy grasp. Only a few remained and we lived in one of the tunnels to the volcano, but it was soon frozen over and silent. Now without any warmth left, my people are out wandering the cold, harsh wastelands of this once great and peaceful land. Nomads we are, finding a purpose, hoping that are goddess will guide us back. Luckily an old friend of mine created this suit to help me resist the cold and pointed me to where I might find the answers to our predicament." Aldorn keeps watch for any incoming attacks or the survivors, following close behind Frost. "If we are able to find a way to bring the land back to the warmth of the Sun, what will be of you?"
