"Yes, very foolhardy of them to try and to fight against you in that state." Bane increases his pace a bit to catch up with the others and then steadies it. "But I must wonder, is there any other creatures that we may face, other than the goblins?" He seems a bit curious on what monsters or bandits in this area.

Paragonis smiled grimly. "If we aren't somewhere safe by nightfall, a better question would be what isn't there to face, even given the relative peace after the War. Dragons, at least, are less numerous than before. Wargs are still somewhat numerous in woodland areas. I've fought a few giant spiders once or twice, and hopefully the knights have rooted out the last of their nests since Northeb the Loathsome. There are no guarantees, sadly. More commonly, there are highway-robbers and various sorts of ill-favored men and ponies about, and in large enough numbers they might be bold enough to take on a caravan, but I doubt even old Tom One-Eye would try attacking three battle-trained wizards and two knights of Thalassana. Still, there's no harm in being vigilant. We may come across a caravan less lucky than us in friends and guards."

Bane seemed a bit annoyed and disappointed. "You forgot to add the veteran mercenary and halfling in that group, but you may be right on not any one of those cowards fighting a group such as this. I am a bit disappointed by the fact that there is not much going around here. Only the whole goblin thing being one of the major issues, if they were to 'arise in force ever again', or something like that. Though, I wonder how you guys got troubled by the goblins in the first place. I mean, I never heard of a kingdom fighting a war against goblins. Goblins are usually hunted down by monster hunters or mercenaries, after causing some damage and harm. How big was this clan that you all faced long ago? It must have been about more than half a million to cause something like a war to happen. Then again, I'm speaking in Alliance terms for a full scale war against a single goblin clan."

The six-hundred-year-old archmage and wizard exchanged a knowing glance, and Paragonis waved his staff in the air. A bubble of absolute silence surrounded the wizards, Bane, and Bingo, though Nellie cast a second spell on the halfling, letting him sleep for the moment. " One hundred thousand goblins, give or take a few thousand. To be honest, it was nothing like what I'm sure happened in, say, the remnants of the Middle Kingdom to the west across the Ocean of Peace, or the even worse situation in Bharat. Was it a war? One might call it that. It is becoming increasingly clear that our time would have been better spent on a journey first to the City of Wonders than going directly to Orod Khazad." Nellie nodded, looking gravely at Bane. " The only question now is how much you actually know of the state of things, and how much is as much myth and legend as most of the inhabitants of this area, outside of the City and Orod Khazad, believe. Tell me, Bane. What do you know, truly and solidly, about the so-called Plague, the so-called 'Kingdom of Kaegil', and the so-called Ancients, with their oh-so-mystic powers?"

Bane looks at Nellie. "All I know is that I know nothing of it: the 'Ancients', this 'Kingdom of Kaegil', the 'Plague', or the mystic powers of the 'Ancients'. All I know is, when I first came here, I was looking for a job so I can have enough money for the return trip back home. Didn't look towards any history on anything at the moment. If I came here with my friend, Elden Dragonsteel, maybe I would learn a bit more on these subjects you speak of. In fact, I wished I would have brought him here so he can see this world and not be left in the dark, but due to his studies as a wizard he was too busy to travel at the moment. I will send him letters though, to describe my activities and the wonderful landscape here along with whatever information I learned or heard so far."
"You can't actually question a foreigner like me to know the answer to a question like that. You probably would get the 'I don't know' answer and you must be expecting something like that and then go explaining the details on that subject, or not. But my main concern is to protect you guys from any harm and help retrieve these stones. I am a mercenary after all, I am hired to do the job right and finish it, unless its something I deem improbable or, in moral perspective, not right."

Paragonis smiled, sitting back as the bubble vanished again. "In that case, I shall simply tell you not to expect anywhere near a war on our journey, here or along the way to the Snowy Mountains. Bandits, goblin clans, perhaps a dragon here and there, packs of wargs, giant spiders, and worst-case all at the same time, but I do not expect to be duelling a rogue sorcerer or fleeing wraiths, at least not yet. Of course we must plan for such an event, in case my guess is wrong. Even so, I would be more suspecting of such an attack after we have the stones in our possession, since we would suddenly have something much more valuable than at the moment."

"We will still do the bit of a friendly spar in this group? To make sure our skills aren't getting rusty or any of us getting bored? Because, it wouldn't be much of an adventure if there is nothing going on in it, especially the beginnings of an 'epic' quest. And besides, it'd be easier to know my strengths and weaknesses, seeing how I'm not a native to this region and how you all don't know me other than myself being a hired mercenary. It's best to trust your friends than to trust a stranger." Bane smiles before slowing his pace to fall to the back of the group. The sword hums and he looks at it. "Don't worry, I'm not trying to keep them on edge. It's just a friendly reminder, one you should know."

Asha says, "To be honest with you Bane, I wouldn't mind a sparring match if that is ok. I haven't had a good workout since when you found me. all I have been able to do right now is fly around. I haven't been able to stretch my mana muscles today."

Bane looks and smiles at Asha. "I'll be happy to spar with you. Had nothing to do after getting off the ship, besides signing up for this quest. It'd be great to do something, even do a little blacksmithing. Though, I should have brought my portable kit to do that. That would've kept my mind busy for a bit, as well as make some useful equipment."

Asha before she gets ready for the duel, pills something from her pack and says, "You mean something like this? It was my father's old portable alchemist's lab. They always tell me to upgrade the darn thing and I tell them to shove it. This item has more value to me then just something that can be replaced. Besides Papa would have wanted me to keep it the same. He did get it from his dad ,and his dad got it from his dad." after showing Bane her father's portable alchemist's lab, Asha puts it away and takes a ready stance with storm katana in two hooves. She then says, "Ok who will start this duel?"
((Asha is hovering but also drifting with the group.))

Bane grins and puts his hand on the hilt of the sword. He unsheathes Aldorn from the sheathe and assumes position, with his right hand on the sword and free left hand out in the open. "I guess I'll take the offer then. And it seems that you have the advantage. You can move freely while the group moves about, which will mean I will have to keep up, but I doubt that will be a problem for myself. Steel sword." Aldorn transforms into a regular steel blade. "Now then, who will make the first move?"

Asha says, "How about age before beauty? Sense you older you get first attack." Asha takes a defensive guard like stance, but is still hovering with the group.

Bane goes to an offensive stance. "Maybe I'll ask for your reason after this sparring match." Bane takes a step forward and, suddenly, launches himself towards Asha. He quickly raises his sword and brings it upon her. The force of the hit is heavy enough to ground a winged beast.

with the speed of a storm asha brings her blade from its resting position right in to the path of Bane's blade, knocking it to the right as she swings from bellow.

Bane quickly dodges the attack, following the deflection of his sword attack and lands on the ground below Asha. He pulls out something from his bag and ignites it. He throws it in the air and it explodes, creating a smoke screen. Bane runs a little far from the smoke and launches himself into the air towards the smoke screen. He swings twice at Asha.
