Asterian voiced his query, "Professor, the energy in the crystals... You said that when the crystal cracked and one of the Ancients tried interacting with it that they vaporized. Are you supposing that the crystals are a stable form of anti-matter and that the power they provide is through controlled annihilation or did I miss something?"

"Er... how would they 'store' up energy if that's how they work?" Blue asked Asterian and tilted her head.

"Oh no. When the crystal cracked, it exploded right away. Right in front of the Ancient after he accidentally dropped it. As for the crystals themselves, they are just a sort of container that holds this pure energy. They are just regular crystals that you would usually find, just more fragile and dangerous." Bane taps the top of the cube and pulls out a crystal fragment. "This here is a fragment of an exploded energy crystal. As you see, it just look like a regular ole' crystal. However, there is a natural added material that keeps the energy within the crystal, absorb the energy, and convert it to pure energy. I extracted that material and I will say this, its not a form of anti-matter but it is a mixture of sorts. From my understanding, the crystals are not made from Makers. In fact, its a random product of nature itself. And finding something like that is almost impossible. And finally, the power of which these crystals hold isn't through controlled annihilation, its something else entirely. Pure energy is like a mixture of every single type of energy there is in the world. Within the crystal, its pure energy. When released, it is life energy. When used, its electrical energy. When it explodes, it will become the most deadliest concentration of energy that if come into contact, it will literally destroy your atoms in an instant, leaving no trace of you anywhere. Does that help clarify your mind? If not, you can stay and use the projector to have a much better understanding."
Bane notices North's hoof go up. "You may speak your question, North Wind."

"If you remember what your question was, please don't be afraid to ask. Now then, after the Ancients have found the energy crystals, they begun to advance knowledge. This of course would lead to experimentation, inventions, discoveries, and so forth. For many years the Ancients had advanced from being a tribe to a nation. And from nation to an empire. This was accomplished through the combination of Ancient Magic, a much different version of Maker Magic, and the energy crystals." The projector shows the progression of the Ancients towards the point where they have created an empire. It then changes towards the other tribes and species.
"While the Ancients advance in technology as well as civilization, they also created relationships between each tribe, despite the difficulties most held. The Ancients wanted to create a place for all living things to live in peace and harmony, and a goal like that would take more than 1,000 years. The Changelings was one of the most difficult species to get along with, and I do believe a certain event proved that to be true as well as previous attempts to take this nation. Dragons were also difficult due to the tendency that they guard their treasure well. Many of these species are still difficult to handle as of right now." The projector shows the relations between the Ancients and the other tribes and how the Ancients tries to improve them. "I would believe my father finally brought peace and harmony between the Ancients and the tribes. It was basically my job to keep that peace until I pass it on to either my son or daughter, if the Purge didn't start."
The projector fast forwards towards time of the 5th Emperor reign over the Ancient Empire. It shows my younger self ruling over the Empire and it pauses. "Any questions before move on towards the last part of Ancient's history?"

"Only question on my mind at this point is: what is the purge?" Blue whispered, not bothering to actually ask, because it will be answered in a while no doubt.

"Then let us begin." The projector resumes the projection. "When the Ancient Empire first began, it controlled only a small part of the world. But later in the years, the empire soon grew bigger to the point where it the Ancient Empire would cover the entire world. It was at the end of the 4th Emperor's rule that the entire world was under the Ancient's reign." The projector shows the empire's growth from the small territory to the entire world. "During the empire's growth, technology and magic also evolved, mainly technology. We have developed weapons, only for protection, as well as other devices for irrigation, medications, transportation, and research. When I came into power as the 5th Emperor, I started the research into space exploration and funded it. It was an ideal dream, to see what the galaxy has to offer, what other creations the Makers have made, to spread our relations towards other species of the galaxy." Bane drifted off a little bit before snapping out it. "We were close into, in fact we actually made our first ship but we never had the chance to test it." Projector only shows the outline of the ship, but not the whole picture. "I'll show all of you a picture of the ship later."
"During my reign, I was nearing the end of my years. I had a family and was about to pass my line of rule over to my daughter, but I guess that was never meant to be. A certain incident started, one that wiped out all life on this planet. It was called the Purge." He breathes for a second before starting. "I have mentioned about the energy crystals before and how they the start of the Ancient's empire and technology. They would also be the end of us as well. Long ago, during the beginning of the empire, the Ancients found a large energy crystal. This was the largest any Ancient has set their eyes on, a crystal hidden within a large cavern inside a mountain. But there was one problem, it couldn't be moved. The slightest mistake and the entire crystal would explode, destroying all life within its blast radius, and that would be a big one. So instead of carefully moving it, we built a city over it. This is where the capitol of the empire was at, underneath a large energy crystal powerful enough to power the entire world with electricity. And it did. Back during my rule, something happened to the crystal, something that began the Purge." The projector shows the large energy crystal underneath the city. It looks perfectly fine until a sudden crack appears, and large amounts of energy pours of the crack. The energy crystal explodes, creating a blast that succumbs the entire capitol city. The sudden explosion created a chain reaction with all the other crystals that was harvested. With all the combined crystals exploding, the deadly concentration of energy purges through the entire world, destroying all life, leaving only buildings left standing.
"Only a few fo us survived, and we did it by shielding ourselves from the explosion. A spell we used to shield us from the harmful effects of the crystals deadly dose of pure energy. When I first felt that something was wrong, I immediately set up a shield and tried to protect my family, but it was already too late, only I was protected by the spell. I would sense other Ancients would have done the same, but the numbers that survived were only a hundred. Trillions of lives were lost. Not only that, but the power of which the crystals had were inside each one of us. We could now absorb energy and recycle energy, convert it to life energy. We were a sort of life crystals, living batteries. We were eternal beings. That was our punishment, and ours alone to bear." The projector shows the barren world littered with abandoned buildings and vehicles. "We are nearing the end of the histroy lesson. If you have questions, you may ask them now."

"What?! You build your city over a giant anti life bomb!?" Blue called out in disbelief. "Ok, sorry, i mean no disrespect, but who's brilliant idea whas that? You had to know that something bad is going to happen sooner or later when building around that thing." She said, quite passionate about the matter.

"My great great Grandfather thought of building the Capitol over the giant anti-life energy bomb. My Great Grandfather, my Grandfather, my Father, and I all thought that was a bad idea, but we couldn't just move the Capitol. That fool built the structures and the generators too close to the point where if we were to deconstruct the city and moved it, it would blow the crystal at an early stage and every single life would have been gone and I wouldn't be here. And I am glad you are one of the ponies who had the sense to ask a question like that. To be honest, I don't know what he was thinking in the first place. But then again, if were to successfully moved the city, the large crystal would still cause a chain reaction. And usually when something does explode, you usually feel a tremor before the force of the explosion comes." Bane pauses for a moment before continuing on. "Any more questions before we finish this?"

Blue stayed silent for a moment, then her ears flop down. "Why didn't you destroy it yourselves? An controlled detonation withing a protection field would do far less damage." She asked, almost whispering.

Bane barely hears the question, but answers it. "Because at that time, we did not have the right calibrations for a shield spell to hold a such high amounts of powerful energy in one location. However, when an energy spreads out after a crystal explodes, it becomes easier to hold a shield down, but only on the caster and those he or she wishes to protect. We had many senior Ancient magic users who could use a shield spell strong enough to that hold that much power or protect the citizens from the deadly concentration, but most were ignorant to the fact that it may never crack or rupture due to its size. I guess only the few that did survive are the ones who had the most sense of protecting themselves and whoever is in their range of protection. One must understand, although we live for a thousand years, we are still only mortals, we aint perfect like those of the Makers or gods. So then Blue, are you still curious or do you understand. If not and there are questions you wish to ask but not in front of other students, you can stay here after class and I will answer to the best of my ability."

The projector resumes, showing a barren, empty world, riddled with ruined cities. "After the Purge, the planet was desecrated. Nothing but ruined cities. Only a few hundred survivors lived through that event, either by protecting themselves from the blast or being protected by the senior Ancient casters, including the 1st and 2nd TimeKeeper, the Guardians, the Great Librarian, and I, the 5th and last Emperor. We thought to have been protected by the shields from the deadly concentration of energy, but the energy was absorbed into the shields and indirectly entered through us by magic. The pure energy rearranged our entire structure to the point where we became living eternal batteries. But instead of converting energy into pure energy, we involuntarily convert it to life energy, which keeps us alive for all eternity. This was our punishment, our curse." The projector shows the side-effects of the energy entering into the Ancients' body through magic and the process on how it arranged their structure to absorb, recycle, and convert energy to life and magic.
The projector returns back to the desolate world. "While we wander the barren wasteland of our once great and powerful empire, the Makers of this world saw everything that has happened. They knew that life would not return for millions of years, so they sped the time on the planet down to only a few thousands. We watched as our empire was engulfed by nature in a matter of minutes, completely covered by earth and rock, removing the Ancient Empire from ever existing on this world. New life began again and took over the world. Time returned to normal and intelligent life began once more. Every single species was there, even the alicorns, unicorns, pegasus, and Earth ponies. But this time, the Makers will not intervene with life. With no introduction to Maker Magic, they substitute it with a different form of magic all together. To do that, they will need a Maker of Magic, a Forbidden One. They were able to find the Forbidden Maker of Magic and let her create magic into the mortal world, where the Third can use magic without interfering much of the universe. And thus, the beginning of the Third species, and the end of our history and understandment of the world before." The projector turns off after showing the creation of the Third species and the creation of magic.
"That is it for history. Next time you have a class here, there will be no test. Instead I will see if I can get a guest speaker to come in, an old friend perhaps or maybe a wandering forbidden one. Who knows, but I? If you have any questions of the sort, come to my desk and ask me. But come up one at a time, I don't want anypony listening in unless you all have the same question at the same time. You can also leave to go to your next class." Bane goes to his teacher's desk and sits down. He awaits for any questions that needs to be sought out.

Blue remained in her seat, waiting for the class room to empty. As half of the students were gone she sighed, this would take too long, she started to pack her things. When packed she put on her saddlebag and came to the desk. "Um... mister professor?" She whispered with her ears folded. "Are those crystals still around? Can they reform one time? Can all this... um... happen again? And... are you really ok with teaching us the Ancients form of magic?"
