Ponies are vanishing throughout Equestria, and nopony knows why. What's more, the Princesses and Discord seem very disturbed by the vanishings, and guard patrols are up. Ponies in Ponyville and around Everfree say the end of the world is coming, and there is growing fear and illogical hatred spreading in the small town. Then the Mayor vanished...

Ponyville was scared. Actually, that was putting it lightly. Ponyville was terrified.
There's a curfew in force, and the Royal Guard patrols have been doubled, but for some reason ponies just keep disappearing. Last night it was Starry Skies, and Lofty Orange... and Mayor Mare. Their doors had been locked, their windows closed...
All that's known at the moment is that there's SOMETHING inside those now-empty houses, and they're surrounded by yellow CAUTION tape and boarded up, though if you had a good enough reason, you could probably get inside.
The interim mayor, Secret Tarry, is doing her best to try to keep the situation as calm as possible, but there are many Disgruntled Villagers, and the townsfolk seem to be getting strangely upset lately, lashing out at each other for no reason, then reverting to normal and apologizing. Thankfully, nopony's been hurt... yet.
Canterlot keeps sending letters that say they're "working on solving the case", but perhaps it was time to see what was going on personally. There was a village-wide advertisement asking for would-be Investigators to come to the Town Hall and talk to Secret Tarry. Going there would be your first priority, especially with all the Darkness Rising...
