[ADDENDUM BY analystteam-00524:
Expect this log to be updated frequently. Don’t know what’s in this thing, but it’s caused the quantum computers to crash just trying to run an analysis. Thrice. Something in the central core causes the computers to go haywire.
For the owner’s VR training we could only import data that wouldn’t cause critical errors, but that put the owner at a disadvantage during training. Most capabilities are reported by owner and verified during field tests.]
NAME
Unknown [ADDENDUM BY analystteam-00524: quantum computer seemed to decipher the name “Sor’aiye Manufacture Vindication—Phalange” every time analyses were made, but no such manufacturer or gun exists in our records]
OWNER
Officer Minabe Shinji. “Bound” to officer in the sense that no one else can use it, and that it establishes a mental connection with him, thus allowing him to use skills that would be impossible with any other weapon. If gun is separated too far from owner, weapon goes rampant and begins flashing and making series of noises, all while launching stretched hexagonal pieces near barrel, to attempt to get owner’s attention.
WEAPON TYPE
Sniper rifle
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Length: 182.9 cm (72.0 in)
Barrel Length: 91.44 cm (36 in)
Width: 16.3 cm (6.4 in)
Height: 35.6 cm (14 in)
Weight: 35 kg (55.1 pounds; fully extended); 20 kg (44.1 pounds; broken and disassembled); 10 kg (22.0 pounds; cube form)
When not in use, rifle can be disassembled into 6 parts and the parts will collapse on themselves to be much easier to store. Gun can also collapse into a cube measuring 58 cm long by 58 cm wide by 58 cm tall.
When fully assembled, the jet-black rifle is usually composed of one long sniper rifle-like body and a scope that floats over what looks to be the “iron sights”. At his command, officer can command up to 256 floating stretched hexagons, which move along with gun or act as markers (see additional data below).
CALIBER
The rifle does not use conventional ammunition; instead, it fires particle beams [ADDENDUM BY analystteam-00524: we’re going with the quantum computers on this one]. This means that all shots will immediately hit the target (so officer does not need to account for bullet drop, travel time, wind speed, target velocity, and so on and so forth).
DAMAGE POTENTIAL
No damage falloff at any range. VR testing verifies that rifle is one-hit kill on critical organs and there is an extremely low chance of survival when hit elsewhere (standard fire mode only).
MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED RANGE
10 kilometers (verified by VR testing)
MAXIMUM POSSIBLE RANGE
10 kilometers
MAXIMUM AMMO CAPACITY
20 rounds. Number of shots remaining is denoted by lights below the “iron sights” and scope. User can expend mental faculties to reduce the time the rifle needs for the next shot to generate; if enough energy is used, the next shot (or more) will be immediately regenerated.
RATE OF FIRE
Maximum: 30 rounds per minute. “Recharge” time between shots (in which gun accumulates energy from energy banks) is 2 seconds.
Recommended: 15 rounds per minute. Gun has recommended cooldown time of 4 seconds; if officer does not let gun complete cooldown, 4 seconds are added to current cooldown timer, up to a maximum of 20 seconds. If rifle is not allowed to cool down, the gun produces excessive muzzle flash, noise, heat (which can distort light around officer and give away his position), and the light trail left by each shot takes longer to fade away.
Recoil is also a big factor in dissuading successive shots, even with bipod deployed.
COMPATIBLE ATTACHMENTS
Rifle’s iron sights and rails are incompatible with current equipment. Rifle comes with a scope part that magnetically levitates over the iron sights, and has very variable zoom (from 1x up to our equivalent of 80x); this zoom is manipulated via switch on top of scope.
Rifle also has bipod underneath barrel that can be deployed to greatly stabilize weapon for aiming and recoil control.
While gun does not accept conventional police and military rounds, by moving a fire selector, the rifle can utilize different “ammo types”: armor-piercing (default); anti-vehicle (skill; see below); tranquilizer (an incapacitating shock, delivered like a taser, that instantly knocks out the target); EMP (light beam instantly cuts electrical power to affected target; anti-electronics and anti-shield); incendiary (light beam sets affected area on fire; anti-organic); and corrosive (light particles dissipate from wound and consume area around it, is most affective against armor of any sort) “rounds”. Depressing the selector activates the safety (the gun powers down), while pulling out the switch reactivates it.
ORIGIN
Weapon is believed to be an artifact from a foreign futuristic civilization, as Megatokyo Institute of Foreign Culture determined that gun does not fit technological progression of any other culture in Megatokyo [ADDENDUM by analystteam-00524: the gun breaking quantum computers seems to make it especially advanced, nothing can crash those things].
SKILLS
Since he can command pieces of the gun to float, officer can mentally command them to separate from the gun and float over a certain location to mark targets of interest (at no energy expense). When aiming near a point he marked, the piece magnetically pulls the gun to location, then moves out of the way so he can see the location or target, and position itself near the scope or sight within his field of vision. After he aims away, the piece will return to its original location until he unmarks the target. A floating marker can light up to give him an idea of the target's velocity, distance, awareness of his location (which would help with counter-sniping) and other possible factors that may affect his ability to land the shot on target (has some effect on user’s faculties). When he’s not aiming, marks will follow moving targets; when the marker floats next to his sights, it can push and pull the gun magnetically to compensate for target velocity. Summoning the pieces back (since they float in place after being set) has no effect on faculties.
User can expend high amounts of energy to curve fired beam toward a location of his choice. This is especially useful if a target knows his location and he has their location marked, as the beam will curve and travel towards the location of the marker. The beam will hit the target immediately, and the mark will move in conjunction with the target’s location, so he won’t miss, but the rifle requires time to calibrate before it fires.
He can also trade energy to temporarily change the rifle from an anti-personnel rifle to an anti-materiel. Expended energy expands the diameter of the beam up to 10 meters, which allows rifle to damage armored vehicles or objects. This is the only “ammo type” that requires energy to use.
Energy is also useful for a "suppressor", which causes the gun to greatly reduce the amount of light and sound the rifle makes, and gets rid of the particle beam trail much faster, all at no cost to the rifle’s damage. The suppressor also works after successive fires.
Lastly, gun also can project a shield to absorb damage, though shield’s benefits and effects (aside from the obvious) are not well understood. Further analyzing is required.
It is possible to combine all of these skills together, but VR tests showed owner’s brain activity sharply declined and neared dangerously low levels when attempted.
MISCELLANEOUS
Module in middle of gun is responsible for causing fatal errors in quantum computers. Research teams are at a loss as to what to do to prevent future crashes, as the module cannot be separated from gun or cube, so analyzing rifle has been postponed until further notice.
