"Yes we are, Nyan. We currently hold the world championship title. I will finally get my own racial tournament uniform. It was just in time too. In three days we have tournament here in Megatokyo." Her tail is twitching excitedly. The twins yip in unison. "We can't wait to fight in the colosium." ~Yuuki and Kibou.

“A pleasure as well, Shinji-san. I have read your file. It says you can reliably make a headshot from ten kilometers away.”
Those words linger in my mind for a bit. As the ojou breaks an unexpected silence by striking a conversation with the lolita nekojin, I repeat the words again in my mind. And again. And again.
A compliment (even if left-handed) from the heiress is very unreal to me. The fact that I’m here with a motley crew of officers—which happens to be dominated by cute girls, for some reason—is very unreal to me. Come to think of it, this entire past week has been unreal to me, if I were to take into account my first meetings with the white-robed man on top of all this…
I’m getting off on a tangent. First things first.
“If you don’t mind me interrupting, I’d like to comment that the records are right,” I manage to say to Asakura-san when there’s a lull in the conversation. “Rest assured. I won’t let the team down.”
Ugh, it feels like I just made a severe social gaffe. What’s done is done, though; I can always beat myself up for that later. Might as well let what’s happened so far sink in more.
Someone’s been doing their homework. Makes me wonder if the other three have. I don’t think the orc has, judging from his comment about me, Usami-san, and Hayashi-san being second-years. If the college student has done some research on us, she doesn’t let on that she has. And Hayashi-san hasn’t said another word; in fact, ever since she backed away from me and the orc, she didn’t even really do anything until the heiress gave her a look.
As for me, I’ve only done research about the assignment. I was aware I’d be working on a team, but I wasn’t aware of who would be on it. Which brings me to my next point: that my three female coworkers are really good-looking officers.
It’s to the point where I’m beginning to feel like a character in just about every action manga or anime—you know, the completely average male protagonist who somehow is surrounded by extremely beautiful girls. And by “extremely beautiful”, I mean they’re all basically fashion models, even if they were all in the military, or cleaning sewers, or even working in coal mines. You always knew that would never happen in real life. It’s just a completely silly (and weird) fantasy set up so that you could include tons of female characters for fanboys to obsess over.
If these girls really are my coworkers—and I’m definitely double-checking to make sure they are later—then I’m a lot closer to that archetype than I thought.
And frankly, I’m not amused. I signed up for the Megatokyo Defense Force because I believe I am the only one who can wield the rifle for a reason. But I’m pretty sure once people find out about my team, they’ll poke fun at me and say that I deliberately chose this squad so I can hit on some of the Force’s cutest female members—or, even weirder yet, so that they can try and hit on me.
All that aside, there is one question I’ve been meaning to ask for a while now: where’s the lieutenant? If he’s in his office, he should know we’re all waiting at his door. Not to be rude or anything, but where the heck is he?
I folded my arms. I get the feeling we’re about to reach another uncomfortable silence since we’ve all been overstaying our welcomes. It’d really be nice if the Lieutenant showed up before that happened.

After returning Katsumi's introductory bow, Satomi was still mulling over the word "murderer." So somebody really has died... At least it wasn't my fault, but... murderers are terrible! Did Katsumi say she'd be helping this group hunt one down? I... I don't wanna be here... This is the wrong job for me... Satomi shifted and fidgeted restlessly but kept her thoughts to herself.

Takimurak bowed deeply, smiling on the inside. "Katsumi-sama! It's excellent to see someone serious about this job here."

I hope I still have a blank expression on my face after what the orc said. Regardless of whether I do or not, I nonchalantly take a step back and consider which direction I should start running as my eye glances toward Asakura-san’s sword.
Let’s see… If I go to the right, I can run straight to the elevator, but this is a pretty packed floor. And I don’t know where I’d end up if I bolted down the hallway behind me. I’d just rather not be around her if she decides to teach the orc a lesson in respect—and let’s face it, she probably might.
I don’t know how familiar the orc is with the heiress (that’s actually an understatement, I sincerely doubt he actually has worked with her in the past), but I’m not interested in correcting his mistake lest she thinks I’m siding with the orc.
Seriously, where’s the Lieutenant? I don’t think he wants to deal with any casualties before we’ve even started on our first assignment.
