"We'll get there," he grimly replied over the radio before glancing suspiciously at Laserbolt, practically accusing his grin. He said nothing more as he brought up the local map on his HUD and set himself a waypoint over the enchanted forest. With a final gesture for Laserbolt to follow him, Wavelength took off toward the forest at a bounding gallop. Flight would be more hazardous and not an awful lot faster with a passenger.

By no particularly well-thought-out plan of their own, the remaining heroes arrived at the same time to an Enchanted Wood under siege. Towering spider-like monsters of cancerous flesh and sharpened bone thundered through the trees, spreading crimson Rot everywhere as tumors already on the ground burst open to release fetal creatures that scurried here and there, dissolving all that was good and green into flesh.
Arrows whistled through the air, striking one of the Spawns and pinning its gurgling body to the ground as yellow ichor seeped from its wounds until it stopped struggling. Flesh melted aside, revealing the still body of a Child of Nature, a Wood-Elf.
Lady Amber was deathly calm as she strode forward, walking on air as though it were a solid road, a cold light in her eyes as she surveyed the destruction without even blinking.
"This. Is. My. Home."
Mirror Mare smiled, lifting a bottle of wine from inside a mirror and pouring the pair two glasses.
To our partnership, then, Nightwing. And for your cooperation, let me give you a second gift.
She lifted a hoof, and a door-like mirror nearby shimmered and showed the inside of a sewer, looking up from a mirror-like puddle of still water. Both of them could hear the voices of the Doublecross Duo, already hunting Pack Rat.
I imagine they'll be... quite surprised to see you, grinned Mirror Mare.
The only response from the rat-like stallion was a fierce hiss as he dove into another narrow tunnel, squirming and wriggling his way to the end, crouched down on all four hooves exactly like a scurrying rodent and unperturbed by the filth.

Care looks at the destruction and something just snaps. She says, "In wisdom's light and shadow's darkness, Let the lives of the children....SHINE BRIGHT THIS NIGHT!"
Careina says, "Cosmic Code Omega.....Received and Confirmed. Cosmona ready for action. Battle armor at 100% power and standing by. Lady Amber, may I analyze the current situation?" Cosmona looks around scanning every enemy in range for weaknesses and possible allied prisoners.
[[Scan mode activated. Omega weapons system on standby. Alpha defense Grid now active.]]
((For a Player's happiness, Careina's true name is Cosmona. I needed time to think on the name. Careina was just a cover name. Made the changes to the signup sheet for Careina.))

Wavelength skidded to a halt and stared in horror at what was left of the forest, subconsciously noticing the simultaneous arrival of Lady Amber and Care. He looked up at one of the towers of flesh and bony legs, and all that it screamed to his mind was "Abomination. Complete abomination." Without a second thought, he designated the towering horror with his helmet's infrared laser, and his grenade launcher adjusted pitch and mortar velocity accordingly. Wavelength said nothing, just shuddering and gritting his teeth as the text cycled by the lower right corner of his HUD; Launcher active. HE equipped. Target locked. He found himself screaming into the silence of his muted helmet as the launcher fired its first explosive round over what was left of the rotting treetops.

Laser looked up at the keep, next to Wave. It... was familiar for some reason. Something out of a book... and it certainly wasn't a comic book. He was just about to turn to Wave, and ask what they were going to do, when the Patriot launched his attack. "Is that what we're doing? Seems like it wouldn't do much." As he turned back to the tower, he started taking it in a bit more... Something in his mind began rattling off words unpronouncable by the equine tongue. "Oh, sweet Father above, no."
Cross dashed through the sewers, laughing in spite of himself. "I have to say, Pack Rat, this is an excellent chase!" His brother, however, was enjoying it far less. "Ugh, it's knee deep... How can anypony go down here, much less live-" "Backstitch, he went down here! Hurry up!" Backstitch twitched, and picked up his pace as best he could, his face betraying his anger and disgust. "WILL YOU STOP BEING SO EXCITED ABOUT ALL THIS!?" Cross pulled a throwing knife out of his coat telekinetically, and threw it in the direction of Pack Rat, as a warning shot.

Nightwing grinned as he took the glass from Mirror Mare, raising it in toast to his new-found partner. "Cheers to us. I must say your gifts are extraordinary. I am just a shade; you are a whole dimension. I envy you." He continued grinning as he took a small sip to complete his toast before looking to the portal with an even wider grin. "Now I'll have to learn how you do that. I think that you'd be surprised as to what my case holds." He set down the glass of wine, approached the portal, and looked through it before looking back. "That briefcase is literally mine; it contains a useful tool I would have needed in the field. Now I see a different use for it. I will return." He gave a mock salute and a wink to the mare as he slipped through the portal.
The stench of sewage was overwhelming. The place was as dark as night. "Just like Manehattan all over again..." the agent Nightwing recalled. With no possible lead on Pack Rat's exact location in the filth of the undercity, all he could do was follow the voices echoing in the tunnels...

The enchantress's answer to Careina was short and immediate.
"Yes."
And with that, the Lady of the Enchanted Woods screamed in battle-fury, and the very trees awakened.
First came a sensation of vertigo, of direction and space becoming ethereal concepts as the very air seemed to shimmer and stretch before them into a vast battlefield. Nothingness was above, and before them an endless plane of packed sand.
Then a whisper, like wind through leaves, that rose and grew into a thundering roar. Was this dream? Was this reality? The Lady of Riddles would never say.
The towering behemoths screamed as ancient oak and pine came to life, furious and ancient. Spawns were riddled by thousands of arrows raining from everywhere as a battle-cry silent as night tore through the air without leaving a trace. Invisible hooves drew swords engraved with runes of power and magic, swords which bit and burned through the unclean flesh and came away untouched and unstained.
The Lady herself hovered in the air, eyes glowing a fierce green as she held out two hooves with orbs of white light hovering above them.
"Not today, Brother. NOT TODAY!"
A swarm of crimson eyes vanished as the space about them suddenly warped inwards, crushing them to nothingness. A long and boneless thing like living entrails squirmed as the fabric of space and time around it stretched and warped until its very atoms were separated part from part in a blinding flash.
"CHILDREN OF NATURE! TO ME! FOR HARMONY!"
Pack Rat twitched his whiskers and dodged to the side as the knife went flying past, then dove into the beginnings of a labyrinth of garbage and refuse, tons of refuse, refuse enough to fill hundreds of landfills.
Nightwing could now see the brothers hurrying after the creature Mirror Mare had named as the first pony who had taken his briefcase.

As The mother of the citadel did her thing care was doing hers. Upon Cosmona's received answer, Care removed the max she had in her saddle bags and put it on. her eyes opening inside the mask as she says, "To night. To night. A night upon the darkness' death. I am a reaper but I am a kind one. A swift death on ancient grounds. I to come and keep the ancient sound. For Harmony!"
A phrase, that even Lady Amber hasn't heard in a long time, is spoken this morning. As care draws both of her medi-guns and all of her Megicite surgical knives. Upon one the symbol of a fire ball and on another the symbol of a Ice Sickle. from the flame one rips into some a fireball and the other rips into more with shards of Ice. the remainder cut and slice through enemy after enemy, while the medi-guns save as many of the children of Nature as she can and keeps the ancient guardians alive.
As Care tears into her foes, Cosmona carefully studies the ones she believes has elves inside them and using the alpha weapons, tears said creatures to shred and lets loose healing rays, that even the medi-guns can't create. With the ancient wisdom of the cosmos, Cosmona selectively targets her prey attempting to save as many as she can while taking down the ones she can't and her enemies. Despite the foes before her, her armor seams untarnished, so far, in the fight.
["Omega System's main weapon 50% and charging. Targeting greatest foe on battle field. Scanning for potential allied life inside. Minor enemies not a threat. Larger enemies minor threat. Massive enemies critical threat. Eliminating massive enemies first."]
((what is said inside the [] is Cosmona's spirit taking action empowered by the proximity of the Cosmic Gem.))

Laserbolt began frantically thinking. "Okay, so, fire is probably not the best source of energy to use, but I don't see anything, really..." He turned to Patriot. "Listen, I can't use the specific power source I have right now, I'll burn everything here to the ground. I need to find some other one..." He grimaced, then smiled, as the helmet reformed. "Spin me, Wave."
The twins continued to chase Pack Rat through the maze, ducking around corners, and tracking him through the labyrinth with all the skills they never knew they had. "GIVE UP, RAT! YOU CAN'T WIN THIS!"

Nightwing saw his chance. He sped after the rat, going incognito as he passed by the Duo in pursuit of his case. He began to trail behind the rat-stallion, trying to reach him. Those years of training certainly helped in times like this.
Suddenly, the black-cloaked provocateur appeared, and in a black flash of fog, he let his dark self loose. Nocturne had awoken once more. Within an instant, he had leapt towards Pack Rat, flashing his ethereal steel talons at him... All ten of them. One of Nocturne's phantoms stood guard to Pack Rat's escape, while the other three circled around, cackling menacingly and scraping their own blades at him. The real Nocturne began to approach, painfully slowly, to his quarry.
(( Will not post more in case Pack Rat or the Duo has a move to make. ))

Wavelength glanced at Laserbolt in disbelief(though that may have been the same expression he was wearing from seeing Lady Amber), but he fired off another grenade before picking up his armored companion, whom he began to spin with the assistance of half of his suit's vertical jets. It was a little wobbly, but there was plenty of spinning to be had--Laserbolt wasn't disappointed.

As Wave spun Laser, the suit began to change- drastically. The smoke stacks receded into the suit, and the red hue began to fade to a white. Then, parts of the suit began to rotate individually, until they were moving as fast as sawmills. "Now throw me at the tower!"
As the shadows surrounded Pack Rat, Backstitch felt something strange. Time began to move slowly. If what that nuisance Laserbolt said was correct, then that meant that... there was betrayal in the air. It couldn't be Pack Rat- he wasn't even on their side... certainly not his brother... and that left... somepony... He looked into the darkness, trying to discern something, anything, that could be a hint to who was in the sewers with them.

Wavelength was fine with the idea of wrecking another of those bone/flesh-towers' days. He activated the suit's joint amplifiers and flung Laserbolt like a baseball. Once he was in the air, Wavelength brought his attention back to another foul creature to attack.

As he flew through the air, Laser's suit began to spin as a whole; and then he began to move faster and faster through the air, seeming to defy physics, as he began to drill through the tower.

Every warrior, every hero, no matter how powerful, has a time in his life when Evil is given an opportunity to triumph over him. For all too many heroes, their fate is to fall, as martyrs for the cause of good. The fastest speedster can fall to a lucky shot. The strongest fighter can fall to a loose blood clot.
Wavelength, the father of Confetty, husband of Candycane, was chosen by Fate to become one such martyr this day.
It wasn't any purposeful act on the part of the enemies. There was no epic battle, no glorious speeches.
It was as simple as a worn transistor shorting at the wrong moment.
It happened quickly, in the heat of battle. Everypony was distracted - everypony was focused on the enemy, rather than on each other. Nopony saw when, or how, he fell. But when the giant creature of bone and sinew roared with the invisible arrows and the blows and the black hole grenades, something made Lady Amber turn and look back.
That's when she saw the body.
((wavelength, the player, is now withdrawn from the game by his own request))
Heroes and villains alike who grew up and made their name in Maretropolis learned early on one thing that the newcomers never did learn.
NEVER,EVER corner a Rat.
The stallion opened his mouth, but nothing came out in the audible range of sonic frequencies. Instead, there was a rumbling, and suddenly millions, MILLIONS of rabid, plague-bearing rats burst from the years of accumulated garbage and filth, swarming, biting, gnawing and clawing. They moved as one creature, Pack Rat and the rats, as if controlled by one mind, for that was the situation indeed. For every ten that fell, twenty came forward. For every twenty, forty...
